As you all know, yoga is highly beneficial for both your body and mind. It is one of the best activities to reduce stress and also increase flexibility and strength. Yoga also has some significant benefits for those trying to conceive. Women who experienced multiple miscarriages or have given up on the idea of conceiving have found fertility yoga to be very beneficial. 

What is Fertility Yoga?

Fertility yoga is a series of yoga poses. It increases blood circulation, promotes blood flow to the hips, increases connection to the abdomen, pelvic area, heart, and aids in relaxation. This gentle process promotes positive reinforcement, incorporates breathing and several relaxation asanas. 

Fertility Yoga Poses: 

Cobra pose, also known as Bhujangasana, is a reclining back bending asana. This asana has numerous benefits; those who plan to conceive must perform this pose regularly. It stretches the lower and upper back to increase blood circulation to the uterus and ovaries. 

To perform this asana: 

  1. Lie flat on the floor with your face pointing towards the ground.  
  2. Place your hands close to your shoulders with palms flat on the yoga mat. Before performing this asana, spread your legs apart. 
  3. Push your hands and arch your back facing upwards. Try to go as much as possible. Contract the navel, but not glutes. 
  4. Hold in this position for a few seconds, and make sure to take deep breaths. 

Frog pose, also known as Bhekasana, is a form of seated asana. This particular yoga pose increases blood flow to the reproductive organs. It also strengthens your core.

To perform this posture: 

  1. Your body must be in a tabletop position on your knees and hands. 
  2. Gently try to bring your knees to the side, turning your feet out so that your inner thighs touch the floor. 
  3. You may lay flat against the floor, placing your forehead resting on your hands. 
  4. Stay in this position for a few seconds; make sure to take deep breaths. 

Butterfly pose, also known as Supta Baddha Konasana, is another form of seated asana. This asana is good for relaxing the muscles in the groin and inner thighs. It releases stress related to the discomfort experienced during the IVF treatment. 

To perform this asana:

  1. Lay on your back. You can place a pillow beneath your neck.
  2. Bend your knees and put the soles of your feet together, allowing them to fall open towards the floor gently.
  3. Place your palms on the mat facing upwards.
  4. Hold this pose for a few seconds while taking deep breaths. While performing this asana, you will feel your entire body is in a relaxed position. 

Bridge pose, also known as Setu Bandhasana, is a backbend asana. Bridge pose is beneficial for those planning to conceive as it promotes healthy thyroid function, strengthens the sacrum, and decreases inflammation in the body. 

To perform this asana:

  1. Lay with your feet on the ground.
  2. Bend your knees and rest your feet beneath them.
  3. As you inhale, lift your hips towards the ceiling, putting weight into your heels.
  4. Hold this posture for a few seconds and take deep breaths.
