But to Begin With, What Is Yoga

The subtle science of Yoga is a practice in which mind and body are involved. It has historical origins in ancient Indian philosophy dating from 2700BC.  A variety of yoga styles generally combine physical postures, movement, breathing methods, meditation, and relaxation.

How Do You Benefit From Yoga?

Its benefits unquestionably transform life.  Research has shown that consistent practice leads to a healthier night’s sleep, increased body awareness and weight loss. It also results in reduced stress resulting in a boost in compassion, gratitude, happiness, and delayed aging at the cellular level. As a result, consistent practice alleviates physical, mental and psychological stress factors and prevents chronic diseases such as heart disease. Overall, consistent practice is supportive of overall well being.

Also, practice mindfulness | What is mindfulness..

Mindfulness is the fundamental human capacity to be fully present, conscious of where we’re and what we do, and not to react too much or be overwhelmed by what is happening around us.  Every one of us has it in us. It’s all about using it. Be fully aware of your inner being. Full consciousness achieved by mindfulness teaches you the ability to pay attention to the present by noticing when your spirit goes astray.

Nevertheless, mindfulness can be fine-tuned by some simple techniques. The following is a few examples:

  1. Sit, walk, stand, and meditate in motion (it’s also possible to lie down while meditating, but this usually leads to falling asleep).
  2. Adding short breaks as we go by our daily life
  3. Combine the practice of meditation with other activities, like yoga, Pilates, high intensity exercise and sports

Mindfulness while doing yoga at home makes a successful home practice possible. To make it happen:

  1. Lessen expectations.
  2. Make it simple, that’s all.
  3. Quit worrying about whether a pose is perfect or lasting as long as it should.
  4. Relax and keep your sense of humor while posing, whenever possible, all day long.
  5. If you have young children nearby, use simple videos as a modeling tool. Keep in mind, kids, learn with the kids. To include children, capture their interest by incorporating relevant actions such as a rattle-like whistle in a cobra posture. Consequently, they are more likely to be joining rather than interrupting.

With our toddlers around, the practice of yoga might not be perfect, but it will certainly work!
