CHASOF (a non-profit organization), founded in 2010 and incorporated in 2011, is dedicated to bringing the marginalized and less privileged into the mainstream of society. The drive for this initiative stemmed from a deep love for humanity and a desire to honor the memory of the late Charles Obiorah, a compassionate and caring individual who succumbed to cancer in 2007. He shared compassion for the less privileged, uncared, and forgotten people in his community — Delta State, Nigeria.
In the past, Mrs Victoria Osadebe, MBA, the founder of this organization, collaborated with some notable organizations like Lions Club International District 404B and Gabasawa Women & Children Initiative to carry out some notable projects like the Flood relief response to the Aballa community in the riverine area of Delta State, 2012 — Women empowerment programs.
CHASOF has also sponsored three individuals from the Aballa community through Tertiary schools and more children in secondary schools. The ongoing renovation project at Unibeth Orphanage Homes is one of our current focus areas.
CHASOF is passionate about shaping a better future for children, particularly those in rural areas of Delta State. They work as a catalyst for positive change, focusing on improving the lives of underprivileged children through literacy and education initiatives. CHASOF partners with children’s authors who donate their books, organize book drives, establish reading hubs, host holiday celebrations, provide essential school supplies, and seek guidance from education experts. Their overarching mission is to empower children and families by granting access to quality books and educational resources.
CHASOF stands out as a champion in the field of education in Delta State. They welcome volunteers who want to make a direct impact. To learn more about CHASOF, please follow CHASOF on Instagram (@chasof_headstart) and visit their Facebook page.
Empowering Through Education
CHASOF aims to give children aged 0-5 years a head start by promoting family literacy and offering free books. They achieve this through their Head Start Library Early Childhood Development Intervention, which focuses on reaching out to families and ensuring that children receive early exposure to knowledge.
CHASOF encourages children to read early, recognizing its crucial role in building a healthier society. Reading books allows children to learn more than just new words; they develop language and cognitive skills for future learning and understanding. For example, children who regularly read books are more likely to understand the significance of a healthy diet, good hygiene, and exercise, which can lead to healthier lifestyle choices.
By exposing children to diverse stories, parents can help their children develop empathy and social awareness that contribute to good mental health. Furthermore, shared reading time can become a cherished moment that strengthens bonds between parents/guardians and children and promotes emotional security. Overall, nurturing a love for reading from an early age is a simple yet profound investment that enhances individual lives and cultivates a community where everyone can thrive.
Key Projects and Milestones
CHASOF’s initiatives are diverse and impactful. They have successfully established programs beyond just handing out books; they are encouraging environments where learning and development are encouraged. For example, their “Read with Me” campaign organizes interactive storytelling sessions in local communities, sparking children’s imagination and curiosity while instilling a love for reading.
To illustrate the impact of CHASOF’s work, they have provided books to over 200 children and families, supplies to over 500 children, and organized over 50 reading events. They have also sponsored students through tertiary and secondary education. These statistics demonstrate the organization’s commitment to improving literacy and education in Nigeria.
This post would be incomplete without mentioning Mrs. Vicky Okorimu, CHASOF’s Delta State Manager. She ensures the successful implementation of programs and the seamless operations of the foundation in Delta State.
A Lasting Impact
CHASOF’s work has a positive impact on children and parents. Children receive their first book, and parents participate in literacy workshops. CHASOF is improving children’s health through education and promoting lifelong learning.
Community Outreach: Extending CHASOF’s Impact Beyond the Classroom
CHASOF’s commitment to child development transcends the confines of the classroom and reaches deep into the heart of communities. Their community outreach events are a vibrant testament to their dedication to holistic child development. These events range from book drives to educational fairs, all aimed at providing resources and support to those in need. Every event makes learning enjoyable and easy to access. That ensures that children from all backgrounds can take part and gain benefits.
CHASOF partners with children’s authors who generously donate their books. One such remarkable partner is T&T Nubian. Additionally, it partners with local artists and performers to add a creative flair to their events, making them memorable experiences for children and families alike.

In collaboration with local partners, CHASOF’s outreach initiatives also focus on building strong community ties. By collaborating with local leaders, healthcare providers, and educators, CHASOF ensures that their programs have a lasting impact and address the unique needs of each community.
